Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu in Mumbai on January 12, marking the opening of the longest bridge in India and the longest sea bridge in the country. The bridge, built at a cost of approximately Rs 17,840 crore, is named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Atal Setu is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, providing faster access to both Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. Moreover, it is anticipated to reduce travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa, and South India. The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, of which the bridge is a crucial component, is set to be open to the public from January 13.

The foundation stone for the bridge was laid by Prime Minister Modi in December 2016. The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

This infrastructure development is poised to contribute to the economic and social development of the region by facilitating smoother transportation and connectivity.
